What people use a random MLB team generator for
- MLB The Show challenge: play a season with a random team
- Choosing a team to follow for a season
- Picking teams for a fantasy draft or a bet
- Trivia: random team to name players, parks or championships
How it works
The generator holds a list of 30 MLB teams. When you click the button it picks a position in the list at random, using your browser's random number generator, and shows that team. If you ask for more than one team it picks that many different positions, so a team cannot appear twice in the same draw. Untick any team you do not want and it is left out.

MLB in brief
Major League Baseball has 30 teams in two leagues, the American League and the National League, with 15 teams in each. Each league has three divisions of five teams (East, Central and West). The generator draws from all 30 teams unless you untick some.
How fair is the draw?
Each time you press the button the page picks a position in the list using your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), so every ticked team has the same chance. When you ask for several teams the picked teams are removed from the pool as they are chosen, so the same team cannot come up twice in one draw. Nothing is weighted by team strength, popularity or past results, and the result is not stored anywhere, so a new press is a completely fresh draw from all 30 MLB teams.
Ideas for an MLB The Show season or a baseball pool
Random teams make a game fairer and more fun because nobody can complain that they were handed the best or worst side. Agree a rule beforehand, press the button, and play it out. A simple extra rule is to play the same fixture twice with the roles swapped, so luck of the draw evens out.
Running a random-team game
- Decide the rule before you press the button: the team you get is the team you play, with no swaps.
- For a head-to-head, set the number to 2 and press once so both players get a different team. For a group, set the number to the number of players.
- Use the tick-list to take out teams you have already used, or to restrict the draw to the teams you want to play with, and untick the rest.
- Copy the result with the Copy button to paste it into a group chat or a scoreboard.
