How to find a good team name
Pick a category, choose how many names you want, and press Generate. Star the ones you like and keep going until the list has a few finalists, then read them out to the group. A good team name is easy to say, easy to spell, and does not make anyone on the team uncomfortable. The shortlist usually settles itself in a couple of minutes, because somebody on the team will groan at the weakest ones.
Use your own word
Type a place, school, street or mascot in the box. If it is a place or a name, the generator puts it in front of a strong noun, giving names such as Riverside Wolves. If it is a mascot, it adds an adjective in front, giving names such as Fierce Falcons. This is the quickest way to get a name that sounds like it belongs to your group.

Tips for choosing
- Say it out loud. If the quiz host cannot read it quickly, shorten it.
- Match the room. A pun suits a pub quiz, and a strong animal suits a sports league.
- Check for clashes. A name that is too close to a professional team or another team in your league can cause confusion.
- Vote. Star three finalists and let the team vote by show of hands, so the winner has everyone's support.
- Keep a backup. Copy the list so you can change the name next season.
Ideas by occasion
For a pub quiz or trivia night, puns on knowledge and wrongness tend to do well. For a children's team, animals and bright adjectives are safe. For an office day, a gentle joke about meetings or deadlines usually lands. For an esports squad, go for short, punchy words. If you need teams to give names to, the random team generator splits people into teams, and the balanced team generator evens out skills.

- Are these team names original?
- The 300 ready-made names and the word lists behind the mixes were written for this site. Common phrases and puns do overlap with names other teams use, so check your league does not already have a team with the same name.
- How many team names can it make?
- There are 300 hand-written names across six categories, plus 1,700 adjective and noun combinations, and many more if you add your own word.
- Can I add my own word, such as our town or school?
- Yes. Type it in the box, say whether it is a place or a mascot, and the generator builds names around it, for example Riverside Wolves or Fierce Falcons.
- Can I save the names I like?
- Yes. Press the star next to a name. Starred names collect in a list you can copy. They are kept on this page until you reload it.
- What categories are there?
- Funny, sports, trivia and pub quiz, gaming and esports, kids and school, and work and office. Or choose Mix everything.
- Is there a name that is safe to use for a children's team?
- The kids and school category is written to be friendly. Read through the final choice with the group anyway, because humour that works for adults may not suit a class.
- Can I use these for a business or a brand?
- They are meant for teams, quizzes and games. Names for a business should be checked against trademark records before use.
