Round Robin Schedule Generator

Enter your teams and get a fair round robin schedule with home and away, byes for odd numbers, and a print-ready table.

How the round robin generator works

A round robin is a tournament in which every team plays every other team. Enter your team names, one per line, or just a number from 3 to 24, and the generator builds the schedule with the circle method: one team stays fixed and the others rotate one place each round. When the number of teams is odd, one team rests each round, so every team has exactly one bye in a single round robin. The schedule is checked before it is shown: every pair meets once, and no team plays twice in a round.

Single or double round robin

A single round robin gives each pair one game. Tick double round robin and every pair plays twice, once at each team's home. The second half repeats the first with home and away reversed, so a double schedule for 6 teams has 10 rounds and 30 games. In the single schedules here, no team in an even field has more than one extra home or away game; in odd fields, no more than two.

The number of games is n × (n − 1) ÷ 2, so it grows with the square of the number of teams. Doubling the field from 8 to 16 teams multiplies the games by more than four, from 28 to 120. Pick a team count to see its schedule and fixture list:

When a round robin is the wrong choice

Round robins are fair, because every team plays every other, but they are long. Beyond 8 or 10 teams, a single day cannot hold them. Common alternatives are pools followed by a knockout, or a knockout with byes, which uses the knockout bracket generator. Sixteen teams in a knockout needs only 15 games, against 120 for a full round robin.

Making the teams

If you need to make the teams first, use the random team generator or the balanced team generator, and then the team name generator to name them.
