10 Team Bracket with Byes

10 entries means 9 games over 4 rounds, with 6 first-round byes for seeds 1 to 6. Edit the names below or use the printed bracket.

The 10-team bracket with byes

Ten entries sit in a sixteen-place bracket, which leaves six byes. The six top seeds start in round two, and only four first-round games are needed to cut the field to eight.

The bracket, game by game

Entries are labelled Seed 1 to Seed 10; seed 1 is the strongest. In each game the winner goes to the game named in a later round.

Game 3: (1) Seed 1 v Winner of match 1Game 4: (4) Seed 4 v (5) Seed 5Game 5: (2) Seed 2 v Winner of match 2Game 6: (3) Seed 3 v (6) Seed 6

Game 7: Winner of match 3 v Winner of match 4Game 8: Winner of match 5 v Winner of match 6

Game 9: Winner of match 7 v Winner of match 8

How the seeding is built

Bracket places are filled in the standard order, where every first-round pairing adds up to 17. The pairings for this bracket are:

SlotSeed pairingResult
11 v (empty)seed 1 gets a bye
28 v 9played in round 1
34 v (empty)seed 4 gets a bye
45 v (empty)seed 5 gets a bye
52 v (empty)seed 2 gets a bye
67 v 10played in round 1
73 v (empty)seed 3 gets a bye
86 v (empty)seed 6 gets a bye

Because the field is 10 and the bracket has 16 places, the seeds that would face a non-existent opponent (17 minus seed number is more than 10) get byes. The top seeds therefore start in round two, which is the reward for ranking highest. Seeds 1 and 2 are placed in opposite halves, so they can only meet in the final.

How long will it take?

Games in each round are played in parallel, up to the number of courts. Total time with the game length shown, counting every round in sequence:

Seeding fairly, or randomly

If you can rank the entries, type them best first. If you cannot, tick Randomise the seeding and the tool shuffles them into random seeds before building the bracket. With a random draw, remember that byes go to the top seeds, so a random seed 1 is a lucky entry.
