6 Team Bracket with Byes

6 entries means 5 games over 3 rounds, with 2 first-round byes for seeds 1 to 2. Edit the names below or use the printed bracket.

The 6-team bracket with byes

Six entries do not fill an eight-place bracket, so two places are empty and the top two seeds skip round one. That leaves only two first-round games, then two semi-finals and a final: five games in all.

The bracket, game by game

Entries are labelled Seed 1 to Seed 6; seed 1 is the strongest. In each game the winner goes to the game named in a later round.

Quarter-finals 2 games

Game 1: (4) Seed 4 v (5) Seed 5Game 2: (3) Seed 3 v (6) Seed 6

Semi-finals 2 games

Game 3: (1) Seed 1 v Winner of match 1Game 4: (2) Seed 2 v Winner of match 2

Final 1 game

Game 5: Winner of match 3 v Winner of match 4

How the seeding is built

Bracket places are filled in the standard order, where every first-round pairing adds up to 9. The pairings for this bracket are:

SlotSeed pairingResult
11 v (empty)seed 1 gets a bye
24 v 5played in round 1
32 v (empty)seed 2 gets a bye
43 v 6played in round 1

Because the field is 6 and the bracket has 8 places, the seeds that would face a non-existent opponent (9 minus seed number is more than 6) get byes. The top seeds therefore start in round two, which is the reward for ranking highest. Seeds 1 and 2 are placed in opposite halves, so they can only meet in the final.

How long will it take?

Games in each round are played in parallel, up to the number of courts. Total time with the game length shown, counting every round in sequence:

Seeding fairly, or randomly

If you can rank the entries, type them best first. If you cannot, tick Randomise the seeding and the tool shuffles them into random seeds before building the bracket. With a random draw, remember that byes go to the top seeds, so a random seed 1 is a lucky entry.
